Pearl on the Zeeland coast

Discover Oostkapelle

Oostkapelle is a popular seaside resort in Zeeland, known for its clean beaches, nature reserves such as De Manteling and Oranjezon, and a quiet, family-friendly atmosphere. The village combines coastal activities with walking and cycling tours through dunes, forests and past stately country estates, including Kasteel Westhove.

It is a larger center within the municipality of Veere and is located between Domburg and Vrouwenpolder. The village has a characteristic village center with shops, restaurants and other catering establishments. Every Thursday in July and August there is a summer weekly market in the Dorpsstraat, with fresh local products, souvenirs and a pleasant atmosphere.

The Manteling

The Manteling of Walcheren is a classic country estate zone with forests, stretches of dunes, stately avenues and winding paths. The Manteling protects the hinterland of north-west Walcheren from the relentless sea wind. Here stands an oak forest more than 200 years old. And yet the trees are no taller than a meter. The forester calls them 'Zeeland bonsai trees': trimmed by the cutting west wind and the blowing salt.

Almost nowhere else in Europe do deciduous trees grow so close to the coast. In this area, you can hear a nightingale singing and a seagull screeching at the same time. Staatsbosbeheer manages a number of stately country estates in the Manteling such as Westhove, Berkenbosch and Duinbeek. In the 18th-century former orangery of Kasteel Westhove, Terra Maris is located, the Zeeland museum for nature and landscape.

Neeltje Jans

The Delta Works are famous around the world… More than half of the Netherlands lies below sea level. For everyone's safety, the Delta Works were built to prevent a repeat of the 1953 flood disaster. At Deltapark Neeltje Jans you can relive history: From the flood disaster to the construction of the Delta Works. Exhibitions, films and viewing the dam give you an impression of the enormous power of the water. Even guests from America come to visit the Storm Surge Barrier. But there's more. A water park, a tour boat, demonstrations with sea lions and birds of prey, an aquarium with tropical fish and much more. Day out? Come to the most fun water park in the Netherlands, Deltapark Neeltje Jans in Zeeland.

Enjoying Walcheren

Walcheren was once called 'the Garden of Zeeland'! And Walcheren still has that magical appeal.  Every season has something special. Sultry sunsets in summer, the wild surf in winter. The beautiful cloudscapes in autumn and nowhere does the hawthorn bloom as exuberantly in spring as on Walcheren. The clean beaches, the sea and beautiful nature make your holiday unforgettable. Come to De Grote Geere and enjoy every season!
